Your Child's First Dental Visit With Us

Working with you to make their first visit the best.

Getting your child used to coming to the dentist can be a challenge.  Our mission is to help you get your child on a regular routine of cleanings, exams and prevention for great oral health now and in the future.

Your First Visit

your childs first dental visitOur mission at Shreveport Bossier Kids is to provide your child with the best care possible in a comfortable and inviting environment.  We understand it can be difficult just getting them to come.

Our office, as well as the The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a “Dental Home” for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.

When you come for your first visit, we want it to be an enjoyable one for you and your child.  If your child is old enough, they should be informed of the visit and that the dentist and the team will answer any questions they may have as well as the parents.

It’s best to refrain from using words that might cause them a little anxiety like needle, shot, pull, drill or hurt.  We will communicate with the child in a way that conveys the right message but in a pleasant and non-frightening way.

We invite you to stay with your child during the initial examination.  In the future, we suggest you allow your child to be accompanied by the staff so that we can build a bond and relationship with your child.  Our goal is to gain the child’s trust and help them overcome any apprehension.

In order to save you time in the office, please download our new patient paperwork, fill it out and bring it with you to the visit.  We look forward to seeing you.
